I have a system in place to accommodate mirrors, but it doesn't work with specific shows (only whole server contents). If this trial succeeds though, I'll modify it so it downloads a list of mirrored shows every once in a while to keep the list current.

I think it'd be great, but you'd be best off running the server on a machine you don't use. If you have to reboot or shut the server down when you do intense computing, it'd be annoying for the users. It's more likely to be annoying to you though :) If you have a dedicated machine and your university isn't going to give you trouble, by all means give it a shot.

Well the machine gets very little use...mostly I just serve to my friends on campus because I have a nasty upload bandwith cap for non-internet2 traffic (internet1??) I never do any intense computing on it...mostly transfering files at this point. The only problem is the bandwith cap on regular internet traffic -- if I send over 60MB/hour my upload speed drops to 1 KB/sec for the remainder of the hour. So it couldn't be open to anyone in the archive.org community, just those with i2 access...I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble to figure this out, but I thought I would offer anyway....BTW, what are the hottest shows right now, I would assume that the ones with the top batting averages would be some of them...

I can do some research on the top shows - the top batting average ones are not necessarily the hottest ones.

To restrict your bandwidth to Internet-2 only machines you have two options:

1) Ask people to give you IPs, verify they are on the Internet-2 network, and then add them to an acceptable list.
2) Take the list of Internet-2 universities and add their domains to your list of allowed IPs.

Hmm...well if this is actually viable I remembered that I saw a neat system for allowing only i2 traffic server...Internet2 Check Page...Mike emailed me the html from the page...this seems like a simple, usable system...let me know what you think -- I could probably get this going on my server (PureFTPD) but I may need a little help...let me know what you think

I'm familiar with PureFTPd configuration so I can help you if you need. To use his script you will likely need to be running a PHP enabled web server.
